~ Shadow, Space Channel 5 Part 2. |
Shadow is the secondary antagonist of Space Channel 5: Part 2. He is the ground leader of the Rhythm Rogues.
Character Info[]
Shadow is the mysterious field captain for Purge’s Rhythm Rogues, following any and all of his orders. He is an alter ego of Jaguar, forcibly brought into existence by Purge's brainwashing.
Appearance[]
Shadow wears a black full bodysuit with a high collar and an elongated antenna on his left shoulder. His suit has red gloves and black high heels directly attached it. The soles of his shoes are red. He wears a black helmet with a maroon visor that completely hides his face from being seen. Shadow's visor consists of five inner segments. These segments idly light up bright red from his right to left and flash while performing a move. His helmet has a long pointed antenna on the back; it occasionally animates in such a way that it resembles a thunderbolt.
Personality[]
Shadow is a bit amiable towards Ulala and is very loyal towards Purge. At first, he acts playful towards the persistent reporter, not taking her as a serious threat. However, as Ulala continues her investigations, his interactions with her turn harsher, taking a more threatening stance against her in later reports, such as in Report 5, where he says “You won't be going any further, if you don’t understand no!".
History[]
Space Channel 5: Part 2[]
Report 1: Ulala Back in Action![]
Shadow first appears during the cutscene prior to Report 1, where he invades a spaceship called the Space Symphony with an army of Rhythm Robots at his side. With them, he forces the people on the ship to dance and abducts them.
Later when the Report starts, Ulala arrives at the Spaceship and finds Money Bags and The Heart Woman being forced to dance. Shadow appears in front of his victims and challenges Ulala for a dance battle. If Ulala wins, Money Bags and the Heart Woman will be rescued and join her, if she loses, Shadow will abduct them.
Ulala will then, follow Shadow to three round elevator, where a shooting segment will start, with Shadow making Rhythm Robots and hostages appear inside the elevators. Ulala will need to memorize and copy directions given by Shadow to rescue the hostages and destroy the robots.
Once this segment is over, Ulala will find Shadow keep the Space Guide as a hostage and a dance battle will start. During this battle, Shadow introduces the Rhythm Rogues. If Ulala wins, the Space Guide will be rescued and join her, if she loses, Shadow will abduct her.
When Ulala reaches the Lookout Dome, Shadow makes a brief appearance and introduces Ulala and the real leader of the Rhythm Rogues, Purge. Shadow warps out before Ulala battles Kin, Kon and Kan.
Report 2: Nature’s Revenge![]
Shadow reappears again at the Space Park, luring Ulala out onto a conveyor belt that malfunctions. He challenges her soon after she and the Space Children disembark from the runaway machinery. He prevents two children and one teacher from being rescued, forcing Ulala into another dance battle “before they melt”.
Shadow later shows up at near the end of Pon Piriri’s defeat, he challenges Ulala to a waltz battle. After his defeat he disappears for a moment giving a false sense of victory, then reappears shocking President Peace and teleporting away with him.
Report 4: The End for Space Channel 5?![]
Shadow and the Rhythm Rogues attack the Channel 5's headquarters and capture Space Michael. To save him, Ulala must defeat Shadow in a dance battle. Even with four BuffBots Shadow is unable to stop Ulala from saving Space Michael. Just as the duel ends, Shadow’s form flickers to that of a man in a black and white suit as he stumbles. He teleports away before Ulala can get a good look at him.
Report 5: The Spies Get Revenge![]
After Ulala and her teammates make it through Purge’s trap at the Mystery Zone, Shadow drops down from an opening in the ceiling of a room with four BuffBots. Together they are the Robotic Band: The Shadows and they take on the others in a Battle of the Bands.
It’s one heck of a show, although when Ulala’s team wins, Shadow flickers back to the same man Ulala saw before: Jaguar. Several screen pop up along the walls with Purge on them and the young genius strengthens the signal keeping Jaguar as Shadow. Jaguar screams in pain, warps in front of Ulala along with the BuffBots, and Purge asks if she wants to play a game.
‘Which one of them doesn’t belong?’ in which the BuffBots turn into Shadow Impostors and Ulala must use ‘the circle button beam’ on the Shadow that’s legit. Once Ulala fires enough blasts of her rescue beam, Jaguar, who nearly became free several times during the ‘game’, comes back for good.
Other appearances[]
Project X Zone 2[]
Shadow appears in Project X Zone 2 representing a rival unit. Shadow challenges Ulala and the rest of the cast (who he mistakenly considers to all be members of Channel 5) to dance battles, even at the cost of his own health. His attacks consist of him summoning Rhythm Robots to attack the players. He debuts "Chapter 8: Dance Battle!" and later appears in chapters 18, 28, 31, and 39. His goal is to make the universe a dance ruled paradise.
Throughout the game, Shadow struggles against his brainwashing, usually returning to his Jaguar persona for a brief moment before leaving. In his final story appearance, he is able to significantly break away from his brainwashing. He confides to Ulala that he is a Space Pirate, that she must "stop the Rhythm Rogues," and that the Dance Energy is out of control and will doom city they are currently in (and himself). He quickly returns to his Shadow persona and remarks that he will see Ulala again, in their own time. Despite his admission, Ulala still has no clue what Shadow's true identity it is.
